Review of the Scrubs Reboot (Spoiler Alert!)

So here we are four weeks into the first four episodes with five more episodes remaining of the reboot of the cult favorite Scrubs created and executive produced by Bill Lawrence with Zach Braff as Dr. John "J.D." Dorian, Sarah Chalke as Dr. Elliott Reed, Donald Faison as Dr. Christopher Turk, Judy Reyes as Turk's wife and Sacred Heart Head Nurse Carla Espinosa R.N. reprising their roles from the original series with John C. McGinley as Dr. Perry Cox and Neil Flynn as the Janitor making guest appearances in the series. Ken Jenkins who portrayed Dr. Bob Kelso during its original NBC/ABC run will make a guest appearance sometime in the second season even though he has officially retired.

It should be noted that even though it has been promoted as a reboot of the original series ABC has designated it as the 10th Season of the original series. Additional while serving as stars of the series Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke and Donald Faison have all been given Executive Producer positions along side Bill Lawrence. Braff and Faison have had previous experience working behind the camera in films most notable for Braff Garden State and Wish I Was Here and for Faison producing  Next Day Air and Skyline whereas for Chalke this will be her first time in the prooducers chair, previously she starred in the sitcom Roseanne as well as the voice of Beth Smith on the Adult Swim series Rick and Morty.

Unfortunately I did not get to see the first episode first run on February 25th because I was busy crusin' and boozin' across the ocean blue on the Atlantic to fabulous lands in the Caribbean. When I did finally did have the chance watch the episode I was impressed by the storyline and character arcs.

(Spoilers ahead so if you haven't watch any of the episodes yet don't continue on)

Without going in to too much details so far in the series I'll just give you the broad strokes.

The first episode entitled "My Return" opens sixteen years after the end of the nineth season of the series. Dr. J.D. Dorian reveals that he now works as a concierge doctor to rich patients in the suburbs somewhere in California, some of these patients have very interesting problems, J.D. also narrates that he and Elliott had gotten married and in the course of the marriage had a son named Ollie before their marriage completely blew up ending a very bitter divorce, Turk and Carla are still married with four daughters and he has become the Chief Surgeon and Elliott continues to work in the E.R. at Sacred Heart, One day J.D. shows up at Sacred Heart because one of his concierge patients collapsed at her grandson's soccer tournament and when J.D. tries to get her released because "There is nothing wrong with her" he later learns that Dr. Cox had concocted a ruse so that J.D. would stick around at Sacred Heart so he could reveal that he was retiring from medicine and that he wanted J.D. to take over as the new Chief of Medicine at the hospital, at first J.D. was reluctant because cause he wasn't sure he could do it but with encouragement from Perry (Dr. Cox) he accepted the job and takes over the position which at first he muddles along but quickly learns the duties of a Chief of Medicine.

In the episodes that follow the first episode we see J.D. get comfortable as the new Chief of Medicine with the occassional arguments with his ex-wife Elliott and Turk over patient diagnoses and budget for new equipment for the E.R. and the surgical staff. By the third episode J.D. is performing rounds with his new interns to help teach them how to properly diagnose a patient's symptoms including Mr. Billings who he quizzed the interns to diagnose the cause of his illness, none of the interns could give the right diagnoses with J.D. finally revealing that Mr. Billings contracted Chlamydia from freaky sex that he and other residents were having at the retirement home much to the disgust of the interns especially Tosh who realizes that this is why her grandma doesn't want her to visit because Nana likes "Threesomes" (Yes she does!). Meanwhile J.D. and Turk are trying desperately to reconnect their lifelong friendship with Carla trying to prevent that from happening including threatening to take away sex from Turk. J.D. and Turk finally are able to re-cement their friendship while having Martini's with the interns.

Overall I would give the series a 10 out 10 and even though the show hasn't finished its first season I am anxiously awaiting for Season 2.
